Join us this summer and fall as we make new friends and get more people into skating.
Start with the clinic if you are learning to skate or need a refresher. We have loaner skates & protective gear available.
We operate a free "Learn to Skate" clinic as a service to the community to promote safe skating and make skating more fun.The clinic covers the proper use of safety equipment, basic skating skills and how to use a heel brake or toe stop for stopping. It's great for new skaters and anyone returning to the sport.Helmets, wrist guards, knee and elbow pads are required. Use the form below to sign up.
For skaters who have taken the Learn to Skate clinic and other non-beginner skaters:Learn skate moves to show off at your next skate and choreograph your skating to music. Indoors at the Salvation Army gym.

Rink night is coming in September. We'll be turning the Salvation Army parking lot into a roller rink and more. Right now we're tracking who is up for helping out with the event.

Our mobile skate school is an authorized vendor at Hook Hall, and we have a skate van to bring our skate fleet to this venue. Send a booking request or contact us for more information.
What We Offer

Loaner Protective Gear including wristguard, helmets knee pads and elbow pads.
High Friction Carpeting to help cautious or new skaters get confident and get started safely.
Our instructors are certified and insured through SkateIA.org and are First Aid/CPR + SafeSport trained.As a skate school, we cannot offer our skate fleet without our skate instruction being included.

DC Skate Van

Our mobile skate school is ready to bring the skating to you with both indoor and outdoor programs. Send a booking request or contact us for more information.
Our instructors carry liability insurance and can add your venue or organization as an additionally insured party. Instructors are certified through SkateIA.org and are First Aid/CPR + SafeSport trained.

Skate Care Sessions
The Check My Skates session is designed to be a place where you can take pride in the gear you have, get some brief answers to any problems, and to figure out next steps on what you can do with your skates.
Skate Maintenance
10am-noon Saturday June 17 at the Salvation Army parking lot (indoors in the gym if it rains).
Notes
Cleaning material and bearing lube provided.
Tools are not provided. You'll need to bring the following: skate tools (a T-tool and a bearing puller) plus a wash bottle.
If you don't have tools, buy whatever you need when signing up.
Don't forget to bring your skates. We'll be taking them apart and putting them back together.

We'll have people coming out periodically to meet you and bring you to the parking area where we are teaching.If you are taking public transportation, it's a short walk from the Petworth metro station.
Cancellations and Rescheduling
We most likely won't reschedule or cancel the session. If it's raining, we'll relocate indoors at the same address, into the Salvation Army gym.We'll send out a note if we need to cancel the session or reschedule it. If we cancel, we'll send you a refund. If we reschedule and you can't make the new date, we'll send you a refund.
What to Bring
Here is a list of what you should bring:Your skates (they can be inline skates or roller skates).Plus the following items:
A t-tool - you'll use this to remove and reattach your wheels
A bearing puller - you'll use this to remove teh bearings from your wheels to clean them
A wash bottle - you'll put your bearings in it to clean them
If you purchased any of these items while registering, they'll be there for you when you arrive and are yours to keep and take home.
What to Expect
We'll show you how to clean your skates. We'll have tables and chairs set up for you to do that comfortably. We'll be at the municipal parking lot adjacent to Franklins Restaurant and the Trolley Trail.
